Welcome to the Life With Diabetes Blog

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Onset) on January 27, 1978. After having dealt with this disease for over 30 years and finally finding myself at the beginning of so many of the staggering side effects of having this malady for so long, I'm writing this as a "then vs now" point of view in terms of daily care.

I also want to try to make a road map or perhaps where not to go for anyone recently diagnosed with Type 1 or perhaps who knows someone who has been diagnosed either with Type 2 (adult onset) or especially Type 1.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not lamenting my situation or pulling a "woe is me." I'm solely responsible for my condition as is anyone else who winds up with it. I'm responsible for all my choices past, present and future.

This is merely my guide and diary for you or anyone else who wants to read it. The subject is living with Type 1 Diabetes on a long term basis. I'm not a doctor so I'm not giving you, or anyone, medical advice. I'll try to give you good lifestyle advice but even that should be discussed with your regular doctor or endocrinologist before implementing it into your daily routine.

As I explain some of the complications I am now having (all of which can come sooner as well as later), hopefully you will take this disease very seriously. If you are already sincerely taking it seriously, then hopefully this will help you redouble your efforts as they are neither pleasant nor enjoyable.

I say that because I didn't take it as seriously as I should have starting out although I told everyone I did. I was lucky for a long time but, believe me, no matter what you do, or who you are, the disease will almost certainly catch up with you.

Having said that, I will close this particular post and move onward. Thanks for your time. Hope you hang around and read as my story unfolds.....
